The Derby School Register 1570-1901 [Download HERE]

Derby School had an almost continuous history of education of over eight centuries. For most of that time it was a grammar school for boys. The school became co-educational and comprehensive in 1974 and was closed in 1989.

This book was published in 1902, edited by Benjamin Tacchella, a modern languages master at the school, and lists all the Masters, Pupils and other records of the school. The preface states that "All available sources have been drawn upon: College admission registers (both of Oxford and Cambridge), biographical notices, pedigrees, memoirs, town records etc"

The Visitation of Derbyshire [Download HERE]

The 1663 Visitation of Derbyshire (Pedigrees of notable families) At first sight, the heralds' visitations are an ideal source of information for the medieval genealogist. The visitations produced a collection of pedigrees of families with the right to bear arms, recorded between the early 16th and the late 17th century, but in many cases extending much further back. Though they are indeed a valuable source, they must be used with great care, and confirmed from contemporary records wherever possible.

3) The Alphabetical Directory of the County of Derby containing upwards of 15 thousand names taken in the years 1827, 8 and 9, contains massive lists of names of tradesmen, nobility, clergy etc.
